All existing roofs where sun flow water heaters • to be installed shall, be visually inspected by the installation foreman. 2. Any defect., such as excessive sag or flex, usually observed shall be recorded. If required, a bracing system may be . installed -to strengthen the roof system. 3. If a roof is determined to be fifteen yeari or Aider, the installation foreman shall inspect the underside of the structure where solar units are to be installed. Note any defective member, condition of material, size of material , over all span and spacing. If it is determined that the framing system 1111 not support the additional loads imposed by the solar units, an engineered bracing system shall be installed. 4. We have investigated a typical rafter and ridge beam type roof ', systems. Calculations are based on a different rafter spacing and different spans with a roof pitch of 4 to 12. Most ccr,ventional home roof framing falls within the spans investigated. In each case, the loads of the solar units were placed on the roof as it will be installed. our investigation show that the existing roof systems are capable to carry two or more of the solar units •-with a three or pore member distribution. The spans and • spacings investigated do not require any strengthening • or additional bracing. We also investigated a conventional prefabricated roof truss systems, one with 2X4 members, 24 '-0 span and 37 '-4" span and one with 2X6 members, 36'-0 span and 35 '.-2" .span.
