HomeMy WebLinkAbout98-21 - Joint Resolution, Board of Trustees and Newport-Mesa Unified School District262 RESOLUTION NO. 98-21 A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE NEWPORT -MESA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT, ENTERING INTO A PARTNERSHIP TO WORK JOINTLY TO STRENGTHEN THE EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT BETWEEN THE CITIES OF WYNDHAM, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA, AND COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa re -affirmed its continued commitment to its Sister City of Wyndham, Victoria, Australia; and elected officials representing the cities of Costa Mesa and Wyndham signed the Sister City Agreement at a community reception on August 23, 1996; and WHEREAS, the Sister City affiliation has been strengthened by the on-going open line of communication between both cities and recent visits to the City of Costa Mesa by officials representing the City of Wyndham; and WHEREAS, the goals of the Sister City Agreement is to strengthen international friendship and understanding, with both cities recognizing the many benefits that will accrue by fostering these bonds in every way possible; and WHEREAS, both cities are striving to develop mutual exchanges and cooperation in various areas: technology, commerce, industry, culture, and education; and WHEREAS, the Newport -Mesa Unified School District is requesting the City of Costa Mesa to work jointly towards specifically building a strong coalition between both educational systems that would benefit the children of our communities; and WHEREAS, the Newport -Mesa Unified School District has taken the lead in fostering the educational bond between the two cities by facilitating an Educator Exchange Program. WHEREAS, the Newport -Mesa Unified School District is willing to become a partner with the City of Costa Mesa pertaining to the educational aspect of the Sister City affiliation. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, and the Board of Trustees of the Newport -Mesa Unified School District, do hereby resolve to enter into a partnership to work jointly to strengthen the educational component between the cities of Wyndham and Costa Mesa.
