During the rse o utine examination of our piping, field gas was detected in
your area a 458 16'h PI., Costa Mesa. (See attached). Laboratory analysis
shows the g-is not f om our system. Field gas is similar to the natural gas we
distribute in that it is composed primarily of inethane, which is colorless,
odorless, non-toxic, flammable gas. Under some conditions, field gas can have
noticeable odor.
Field gas occurs naturally in the earth in some places and is often associated
with existing or former oilfields. It may also be generated by sanitary landfills or
sewer. The gas may be hazardous if it is allowed to accumulate in confining
spaces, such as buildings, where it can form an explosive mixture with air.
