Hruza V IPI • Subject: Tract 6259, Lots 20; 21 Gentlemen: It was brought to our attention by your office that a limited amount of dried vegetation was observed in the footing trenches of lots 20 and 21 of Tract 6259. A meeting was held in the field with Mr. Frank Hruza of your office , Mr. Art Kovack, and Mr. Ross Hammond of this office. Some dried ve- getation was noted about six inches below the surface along the front or north footing trenches of lots 20 and 21. The exposed footing trenches for the remainder of lots in this area were inspected and no additional vegetation was observed. It is concluded that during the cjean-up and processing of natural ground, the front portion of the building pad was inadvertantly covered with fill before all of the vegetation was removed, however, it was quite dry and not of suf- ficient extent to provide any problem, and the bottom of the footing trenches were in moist, well compacted soil. Two bars of number four steel are to be used in the foundations, and 6/6 10/10 wire mesh is to be employed in the floor slabs. As the soils on this site are expansive, and the compacted fills are very limited in depth, being only one foot deep, the problem to the foun- dations is not one of settlement, but one of expansion, and this has been minimized by seeing that the foundation soils are in a moist condition prior to pouring the foundations, and maintaining good lot drainage away from the proposed buildings. It is our opinion that no undue stress will be provided to the foo- tings or slab as a result of the minor amount of the vegetation en- countered. Any loose soils within the foundation area should be wheel-rolled or mechanically tamped prior to pouring the slab.
