HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/23/2002 - Special Meeting - City Council r. --- 4/ 4 SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING CITY OF COSTA MESA OCTOBER 23, 2002 The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, California, met in special session on October 23, 2002, at 8:17 a.m., in Conference Room 1-A of City Hall, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. Notice of the special meeting was given as required by law. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Dixon. ROLL CALL Council Members Present: Mayor Linda Dixon Mayr Pro Tern Gary Monahan Council Member Libby Cowan - - Counci, Member Karen Robinson Council Members Absent:--Council-Member Chris Steel Officials Present: City Manager Allan Roeder . = Administrative Services Director Steve Hayman Personnel Manager Howard Perkins Legal Counsel, Liebert, Cassidy and Whitemore, Peter Brown Deputy City Clerk Julie Folcik ORAL There being no public speakers, the_Mayor adjourned to the COMMUNICATIONS closed session at 8:20 a.m. Closed Sessions Pursuant to Government Code Section 54957, a closed session of the Costa Mesa City Council regarding a public employee release was held. Pursuant to Government Code Section 54957, a closed session of the Costa Mesa City Council to conduct a public employee evaluation of the City Attorney was held. Announcement The Mayor reconvened the public session of the meeting at 9:45 a.m., at which time it was announced that the purpose of the following closed session was to discuss the allegation in a letter that the City received dated October 15, 2002 from Assistant City Attorney Torn Wood, in which he opined that the Council convened a meeting on September 9, 2002, that was illegal and in violation of the Brown Act. The subject meeting was a closed session regarding public employee performance evaluations. The Mayor adjourned the meeting to the closed session at 9:50 a.m. Pursuant to Section 54965.9 (b)(3)(B) of the California Government Code a closed session to confer with legal counsel regarding anticipated litigation of matters that involve significant exposure to litigation — one (1) case, was held.
