I’m wri ti ng to voi ce my opini on against gi ving a special use permi t for a sober li ving unit at 2412 Orange Avenue
on the East si de of Costa Mesa. I will be out of the country on a trip duri ng the ti me of the Oct 15th meeti ng but
wanted to express my opini on to the city council.
I have been a resident and homeowner here for 34 years and love the communi ty. It’s a family oriented, quiet
nei ghborhood with lots of chi ldren present and we don’t need or want the problems associated with sober li ving
facilities. Many resi dents that fall out of these facili ti es simply become additional homeless people in our fi ne
community. C rime i s more prolific around these facilities.
Our property values are stable and the addition of more sober livi ng facilities wi ll be to the detriment of our
community and to the property values in our area. Please uphold the denial of the applicati on by both the
D irector of Economic Development and the 7-0 planning commi ssion deni al that also occurred.
As a child, I grew up in Newark, NJ i n a low i ncome housi ng community fraught with drugs, crime, and violence.
I’ve worked hard all my life, have several college degrees and am proud to live in such a nice communi ty as
C osta Mesa. I do not want it to turn i nto where I came from many years ago.
Sincerely,
Joseph Tortorello

RE: New Business Agenda Item #1
Dear Mayor Foley and Members of the City Council:
I would like to express my support of Mrs. Flo Martin for the District 3 P lanning
Commission vacancy. Having known Mrs. Martin for more than 20 years, her
knowledge of and presence in the city is unmatched. She has walked and biked
and traversed our streets like none other. A regular at most public meetings in
Costa Mesa, she pays close attention to agenda items and issues related to
transportation, housing, homelessness, parking and so much more. Flo may have
retired from a career in education, but she continues to work tirelessly in Costa
Mesa for residents of all ages. Her strengths include consensus-building and
commitment to create a safe community.
Be kind, mak e t ime, find a way,
Charlene M. Ashendorf
