When construction of the pool was begun in August, 1965, we were assured that it would be completed in 17 to 21 days. It was October 31 before the pool was com- pleted, and then only after I took matters into my own hands and arranged for nec- essary inspections by the Costa Mesa building officials, since your office neglec- ted to do this so that construction could proceed. Since the pool was completed, we have had several serious problems and have tried repeatedly to get your "Follow-up Service Man" (as advertised in the Los Angeles Times) to come out and advise us regarding these problems. When the decking developed cracks up to two inches in width you sent your decking contractors out to check it. We were told that they had never encountered a situation as bad as this one, and that it would cost us $300 to replace the decking. We were also told that the condition was due to expansive soil, a condition you were not un- -aware of when the contract was signed, since we were charged $150 extra because of this soil condition. We have called your office again and again in an attempt to get someone out here to appraise the situation and to advise us as to what steps to take so that this would not happen again when the decking is replaced. Perhaps a sand base should be used. Perhaps steel reinforcing should be used. Perhaps drainage is faulty. One wodid think that you would be interested enough in a situation as severe as this one to study it so that it would not happen again. At least you could send your non-existent follow-up man to suggest a new approach. We see no point in spending $300 on new decking to be put down by the same people in the same way only to have the same thing happen again. In desperation we called upon Mr. Ed Horrocks, Senior Inspector of the City of Costa Mesa. He agreed that you should at least furnish engineering advice and twice made appointments to meet you here at the site. Both appointmats were cancelled by your office and Mr. Horrocks was assured that another a?pointment would be made. Another false promise. Since then, the heater has not performed satisfactorily. This was reported to your office over a month ago. No action. Also there is s two inch crack be- tween the tile and the coping. This, too was reported a month ago. Still no action. - My husband and I have called your office at least a dozen times since the first of the year and have not been able to get past your offife girls who assures us that "someone" will call back. That "someone" has never returned a call, and I am sure that he never will, since the pool was completely paid for (at your insistence) even before it was completed. I am sending copies of this letter and your misrepresenting ads to every agency I can think of in hopes that I can save a few other victims from being taken in by your false claims of superior service before, during, and after construction. We have seen none of it.
