I. SubjecU Hacner Mortadess Concrcte Assembly Blocks.
IL Deuription: The Haener assembly blocks are conerc�e units com-
plying with Grade N units as specified in U.B.0 Slandard No. 24-4. The
units are available in nominal sizes o( 8 x 4 x 16 (strctchcr), S x 4 x 8
(one-hal� and 8 z 4 x 16 (comer block). Six- and 8-inch-high blocks are
also available togclher with 6-inch-wide units. The units are similar to
conventional hollow conerele uni[s but wi[h lugs, projections and recesses
ro provide interlocking without mortared head or bed join[s. These include
special shapes for mmers. jambs and other locations. The space be[ween
the (ace shells is filled solidly with portland cement grou� con(orming with
Section 2403 (r) and Table No. 24-A o( the Uniform Building Codc.
Exception is permitted for swcmral rnatings over mortadess rnncrete
block recognized in research repons. Block cells are interconnected with
cavi�ies [o provide additional incerlocking when the grou[ is poured. See
Figure Na. 1.
Design: Al! ce!!s and oiher cavitles between (ace shells shall be grouted
solid. Axial stresses for reinforced masonry in reference to wall buckling
may be based on the nominal block width. Minimum wall rein(orcement
shall be based on a. sWcmral wall thickness equal to [he grout width
between face shells. Stresses shall be based solely on continuous vertical
cells grouted solidly. Net grow space dimensions are 5 inches wide for the
8-inch-wide block, 3 inches widc forthe 6-incfi-wide biock and4'/x inches,
4'/a inches, 8'/z inches and 5 inches long for the stretcher, hvlf, end and
comer blocks, respectively for both widths. Based on al I cells being grouted
solid, f',„ equals I500 psi for design purposes. Special blxks contain web
notches to allow for contirtuous horizonlal reinforcement.
Since no morlar is reyuired in lhe wall assembly, cleanoWs reyuired in
Section 2415 (b) 3 0( [hc Uniform Building Code are not required.
Identi�cation: The blceks are iden[ified by three individual shapes.

Findings
IV. Findings: That the Haener Mortarless Concrete Assembly
Block is an alternate method of hollow concrete block conslruction as
specified in the 1982 Uniform Building Code, subject to the following
conditions:
1. All ceils are grou[ed solid, except where otherwise permitted by
research reporls on structural caatings over mortarless concrete
blocks.
2. The wall design is based an conditions set forth in [his report.
3. Thelowestblockcourseinanyareaissetinmortartoprovidefor
initial leveling of lAe wall.
4. The 8-inch•wide block construclion is assigned a fourvhour fire-
resistive rating only when all cells are grouled solid.
This report is subject to re-examination in two years.
