HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-34 - Requesting PERS Allow Employment of Ron Molendyk beyond the 960 Hour LimitRESOLUTION NO. 03-34 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM TO ALLOW THE EMPLOYMENT OF RON MOLENDYK BEYOND THE 960 - HOUR LIMIT OF EMPLOYMENT. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, the City has an immediate need for an experienced part-time Park Project Manager to fill a temporary and sudden vacancy in the Public Services Department; and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa is currently employing Ron Molendyk as a part-time, limited term Fairview Park Plan Administrator; and WHEREAS, in addition to his current duties the City desires to have Ron Molendyk work for the City in the capacity of Park Project Manager due to his specialized skills and to provide for uninterrupted progress on high priority park development projects; and WHEREAS, Ron Molendyk is currently retired under the Public Employee's Retirement System ("PERS") and may not work more than 960 hours in a calendar year, pursuant to Government Code Section 21151(h), except upon approval of PERS pursuant to that section; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa as follows: 1. That the appointment of Ron Molendyk to fill the temporary vacancy of the Park Project Manager is hereby confirmed and that the appointment is necessary because the position requires unique skills possessed by him. 2. That the above appointment is hereby declared to be of a limited duration to continue only until the existing full-time Park Project Manager returns to his duties full- time. 3. That the Council does hereby request an extension by PERS for the above appointment to continue beyond 960 hours pursuant to Government Code Section 21151(h). 4. That the City Manager is authorized and directed to forward a copy of this resolution to PERS and to take such other actions as are required to effectuate this extension.
