HomeMy WebLinkAbout75-53 Amending Real Estate Sign Code1 ORDINANCE NO. 76"-63 2 AN ORDINANCE OF -THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA AMENDING PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER VI OF 3 TITLE 5 OF THE COSTA MESA MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO REAL ESTATE SIGNS. 4 5 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY 6 ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: 7 SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa 8 hereby kinds -and declares that experience in applying the pro - 9 visions of the sign ordinance, input from the community and 10 industries affected require that certain definitions be clarified 11 and changes made regarding the allowable signage for temporary real 12 estate signs. The following provisions are intended to implement 13 the original purpose and intent of Ordinance No. 74-25. 14 Accordingly, the following designated subsections and 15 sections of Chapter VI of Title 5 of the Costa Mesa Municipal Code 16 are hereby amended to read as follows: 17 SECTION 2: §5'-119 is'amended by adding the following 18 subsections: 19 (35) Directional Sign shall mean any sign located 20 off-site or off -premise. 21 (36) Logo shall mean a trademark or company name or 22 symbol. 23 (37) Open House Sign shall mean a sign with the word: 24 "Open House" as the copy. 25 SECTION 3: §5-125 is amended by replacing the existing 26 language as follows: 27 (B) Temporary Signing 28 (2) Real estate signs. One real estate sign 29 shall be allowed per lot, subject to the following specifications: 30 (a) Maximum dimensions: Eighteen (18) 31 inches by twenty-four (24) inches. 32 (b) Colors: Green background with white -1- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 11 figures and letters. (c) Copy limited to: 1. That the property is for sale, lease or exchange by the owner or his agent; 2. The owner's or agent's name; 3. The owner's or agent's address and telephone numbers and 4. The agent's logo. (d) immediately after sale, said sign shall be removed from the premises forthwith, and no replacement may be installed or addition made to said sign indicating that the property has been "sold" or in any other manner may realtor or property owner advertise the results of said listing. (2.1) Open House Signs: One Open House Sign allowed per site, subject to the following specifications and standards: (a) Must be attached to the real estate sign, or be used in lieu of the real estate sign. (b) Colors: Green background with white letters. (c) Maximum Dimensions: Twelve (12) inches by twenty-four (24) inches. (2.2) Directional Signs: Two (2) Directional signs shall be allowed per listing, subject to the following specifications and standards: (a) Color: Green background with white letters and figures. (b) Maximum Dimensions: Twelve (12) inches by twenty-four (24) inches. (c) Name of real estate agent and his phone number shall be included as part of the copy in letters and figures one (1) inch high. -2- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 (d) Location: 1. Signs shall be located entirely on private property with permission of the property owners. 2. A maximum of one (1) sign shall be allowed per property. SECTION 4: §5-128 is amended by replacing the existing language as follows: §5-128: Signs prohibited on public property or public rights-of-way; removal. (a) No person shall erect, place or display or cause to be erected, placed or displayed, any sign, sign structure of advertising device in, under, on or over any public. property or any public right-of-way with respect to which the City has jurisdiction. Any such sign, sign structure or advertising device erected, placed or displayed contrary to the provisions of this section shall be a public nuisance and the City may immediate- ly remove and dispose of it without notice. (b) The provisions of this section shall not prohibit the posting of any notice in the manner required by law or by the order of any court of this state. SECTION 5: This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect thirty (3) days from and after its passage, and before the expiration of fifteen (15) days after its passage, shall be published once in the Orange.Coast Daily Pilot, a news- paper of general circulation printed and published in the City of Costa Mesa, together with.the names of the members of the City Council voting for and against the same.
