HomeMy WebLinkAbout74-31 Changing Council Meeting Day/TimeORDINANCE NO. 74-31 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, AMENDING SECTION 2-38 OF CHAPTER III OF THE ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA CHANGING THE REGULAR DATE OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS FROM THE FIRST AND THIRD MONDAYS OF EACH MONTH TO THE FIRST AND THIRD TUESDAYS OF EACH MONTH, AND SETTING FORTH AUTHORITY AND REASONS THEREFOR. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa finds and declares that Section 36805 of the Government Code requires that regular meeting dates of the City Council be established by ordinance. The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa further finds and declares that the convenience of the Council in serving the public can best be met by establishing the Council meeting date as the first and third Tuesday of each month. The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa finds and declares that the health, safety, and welfare of the community to be governed by the City Council will best be served by the afore- mentioned change of meeting time. Accordingly, Section 2-38 of Chapter III of the Costa Mesa Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: SECTION 2. "Section 2-38 Time, Place for Regular Meetings The City Council shall hold regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the hour of 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, or such other place as designated by the City Council. If by reason of fire, flood, or other emergency, it shall be unsafe to meet in the City Hall, the meetings may be held for the duration of the emergency at such other places as is designated by the Mayor, or, if he should fail to act, by three (3) members of the City Council. When the day of any regular meeting falls on a holiday, Christmas Eve, or New Year's Eve, such meeting shall be held at the same hour and place on the next succeeding day not a holiday, or such other time as designated by the City Council." SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force thirty (30) days from and after its passage, and before the expiration of fifteen (15) days after its passage, shall be published once in the Orange Coast Daily Pilot, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in the City of Costa Mesa, together with the names of the members of the City Council voting for and against the same.
