AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, REVISING THE WALIFICA-
TIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP AND TERM OF OFFICE OF THE
TRAFFIC COMMISSION.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City.Council of the City of Costa Mesa hereby finds
and declares as follows:
The Traffic Commission has been established, together with qualifica-
tions for membership and term of office, by the City Council of the City of
Costa Mesa as set forth in Section 10-44 of the Municipal Code. The City of
Costa Mesa may revise qualifications for commissionership and term of office.
Accordingly, the Costa Mesa Municipal Code is amended as follows:
SECTION 2. Title 10-44 is hereby amended to read as follows:
"(a) There is hereby established an advisory traffic commission, to
serve without compensation, consisting of five (5) commission members to be
appointed from the community at large.
(b) The five (5) members from the cammunity at large shall be appointed
for a definite term of up to four (4) years but the City Council may, at any
time, extend or reduce the length of term of any or all of the commissioners.
Each appointment shall terminate at the end of its term, and the position
shall be deemed vacant without further action of the Council. Nothing herein
shall prohibit the Council, by appropriate action, from appointing any of
the commissioners for subsequent terms. Notwithstanding the terms of office
established herein, said commissioners shall nevertheless serve at the will
and pleasure of the City Council.
(c) The staff of the City of Costa Mesa shall serve as the staff of
the traffic commission and shall prepare and make reports and recommendations,
give technical advice, and prepare commission findings for consideration by
the City Oouncil."
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall take effect and be -in full force thirty
(30) days from and after the passage thereof, and prior to the expiration
of fifteen (15) days from its passage shall be published once in the ORANGE
COAST DAILY PILOT, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published
in the City of Costa Mesa or, in the alternative, the City Clerk may cause
to be published a summary of this Ordinance and a certified copy of the text
of this Ordinance shall be posted in the office of the City Clerk five (5)
clays prior to the date of adoption of this Ordinance, and within fifteen
(15) days after adoption, the City Clerk shall cause to be published the
aforementioned summary and shall post in the office of the City Clerk a
certified copy of this Ordinance together with the names of the members of
the City Council voting for and against the same.
