AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION 10-248
OF THE COSTA MESA MUNICIPAL CODE TO RESTRICT
COMMERCIAL VEHICLES TO THE TRUCK ROUTE SYSTEM.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
r SECTION 1. The Costa Mesa City Council finds and declares as follows:
The City has by ordinance established a truck route system (Costa Mesa
Municipal Code Section 10-248) for vehicles exceeding a maximum gross
weight of three (3) tons, with exceptions as required by California Vehicle
Code Section 35700, et seq.

limit, with certain exceptions, by posting appropriate signs.
In order to prevent commercial traffic from using residential neigh-
borhoods and to minimize noise, dirt, and inconvenience to residents and
other persons in the City of Costa Mesa, it is necessary to confine ccmmer-
cial traffic and large vehicles to established..truck routes.

Accordingly, the Costa Mesa Municipal Code is hereby amended as fol-
SECTION 2. Section 10-248 of the Costa Mesa Municipal Code entitled
"Truck Routes" is hereby amended by the addition of paragraph (e) as fol-
lows:
"(e) The use of any street or part of any street not established as
part of the truck route is hereby prohibited by any commercial vehicle (as
defined by California Vehicle Code Section 260) and any vehicle exceeding a
maximum gross weight of three (3) tons, except as allowed in (b) and (c)
above. Appropriate signs shall be posted as designated by the California
Department of Transportation "Traffic Manual" in accordance with criteria
established by the Transportation Services Engineer of the City of Costa
Mesa, showing which streets are truck routes. It shall be unlawful for any
person to operate or park, or cause to be operated or parked, any vehicle
in violation of this provision."
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force
thirty (30) days from and after the passage thereof, and prior to the
expiration of fifteen (15) days from its passage shall be published once in
the ORANGE COAST DAILY PILOT, a newspaper of general circulation, printed
and published in the City of Costa Mesa or, in the alternative, the City
Clerk may cause to be published a summary of this Ordinance and a certified
copy of the text of this Ordinance shall be posted in the office of the
City Clerk five (5) days prior to the date of adoption of this Ordinance,
and within fifteen (15) days after adoption, the City Clerk shall cause to
be published the aforementioned suffmary and shall post in the office of
the City Clerk a certified copy of this Ordinance together with the names
of the members of the City Council voting for and against the same.
