AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 2,
CHAPTER II, SECTION 2-22 OF THE COSTA MESA
MUNICIPAL CODE TO CHANGE THE OFFICE OF VICE
MAYOR TO THAT OF MAYOR PRO TEM.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa
makes the following findings:
WHEREAS, pursuant to California Government Code Section 36801
City Council is directed to select a mayor pro tempore; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to California Government -Code Section 36802
the mayor pro tempore is empowered with all of the powers and
duties of the mayor in the event the mayor is absent or -unable to
act in his or her capacity as mayor; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Costa -Mesa desires to
amend the Costa Mesa Municipal Code in order to conform to State
statutes;
Section 2. Section 2-22 of Title 2, Chapter II, of the
Costa Mesa Municipal Code is hereby amended as follows:
Sec. 2-22 Mayor,Pro Tempore.
(a) Appointment. The. City Council shall meet and
appoint a mayor pro tempore at the next regularly
scheduled meeting following the general election and
appoint a mayor pro tempore.
-(c) Powers and duties. The mayor pro tempore shall
serve in place of the duly elected and acting mayor of
the City of Costa Mesa if he or she is absent or unable
to;act, and -shall have all'of the powers and duties of
the'mayor and.obligations shall be those assigned by the
mayor..
Section 3. Publication..
This Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and
effect thirty (30) days from and after its passage and, before the
expiration of fifteen (15) days after its passage, shall be
published once in the NEWPORT BEACH -COSTA MESA PILOT, a newspaper
of general circulation printed and published in the City of Costa
Mesa, or,, in the alternative, the City Clerk may cause to be
published a summary of this Ordinance and a certified copy of the
text of this Ordinance shall be posted in the office of the City
•Clerk five (5) "days prior to the date of adoption of this
Ordinance, and within .f ifteen '(1 5 ) days after adoption, the City .
Clerk shall cause to be published the aforementioned summary and
shall post in the office of the City Clerk a certified copy of this
.Ordinance together with the names of the members of the City
Council voting for and against the same.
