HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/01/1953 - City CouncilMINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF COSTA MESA JULY 1,1953• ROLL CALL The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa met at a regular adjourned meeting on July 1, 1953, at 7:34 P,M. at 116 East 18th Street, Costa Mesa, California. Present: _ Councilmen Martin, Miller, Nelson, Smith and Mayor TeWinkla. Absent: None Officials Present: Clerk Swartz, Treasurer Ries, City Attorney Dungan. MOTION TO Councilman Martin moved that the City Clerk be author - PURCHASE lized to purchase Minute, Ordinance and Resolution books RECORD and to make purchases•up to $25,00 for necessary office BOOKS supplies. ZONING Walt Weimer, Orange County Planning Commissioner, ORDINANCE appeared before the City Council and said that a request CHANGE has been made to change that area bordered by 16th and 17th Streets, and Newport Boulevard, and Orange Avenue, from an R®J;_ (residential) to C-1 (light commercial buildings) or multiple residence section. He asked that the City Council give the Board an indication of what it would prefer and a meeting of a later date was agreed upon to study the matter. The City Council decided upon Monday, July 6, 1953, at noon, to consider the change. M. on DIRECTOR'S July 9, 1953. RESOLUTION Councilman Miller introduced and moved the adoption N0. 3 of Resolution No. 3,"ESTABLISHING THE FISCAL YEAR FISC_,IL YEAR OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA FROM JULY 1 TO JUNE 30". The motion was seconded by Councilman Martin and carried by, the following vote:: AYES: Councilmen Martin, Miller, Nelson, Smith and TeWinkle. NOES: 'None. RESOLUTION Councilman Martin introduced and moved adoption of NO._4 Resolution No, ll., which provides for the "OBTAINING LIABI7,,ITY OF IMMEDIATE CITY LIABILITY INSURANCE" on a thirty INSURANCE day binder with the Pacific Indemnity Company at a price to be determined by a survey. The motion was seconded by Councilman Miller and carried by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Martin, Miller, Nelson, Smith and TeWinkle, NOES: None. ADJOURNMENT Councilman Smith moved the adjournment of the meeting of the City Council. The motion was seconded by Councilman Martin and carried by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Martin, Miller, Nelson, Smith and TeWinkle: NOES: None. A. C. SWARTZ, City erk City of Costa Mesa. Mr, Earl Trusheim of 1889 Park Avenue, Costa Mesa, made an oral report to the City Council that his neighbor was creating a nuisance, The Council took no action and suggested that he contact the County law enforcement officials. APPOINTMENT City Clerk Swartz read a letter dated July 1, 1953, OF COMMITTEE addressed to the City'Council from the Merchants ON STREETS Division of the Chamber of Commerce reporting the AND HIGH1,,1AY traffic hazard existing in the downtown area. Mayor TeWinkle appointed Councilman Miller and Councilman Smith as a committee to meet with the County and State Highway officials to seek solution for the problem and to study which streets in Costa Mesa should be designated as major city streets. BUSINESS Mayor TeWinkle appointed- Councilman Nelson as chair - LICENSES man of a committee to discuss with the Merchants Division, a business license ordinance for the city, RESOLUTION Councilman Miller introduced and moved the adoption N0. 3 of Resolution No. 3,"ESTABLISHING THE FISCAL YEAR FISC_,IL YEAR OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA FROM JULY 1 TO JUNE 30".
