Council of ,the City -.of Costa Mesa met at a regular adjourned -session November 23rd..1953, at 7:30 P. M, at..the.lustice Court Building, :.West -18th Street,.. Costa Mesa,_ California. Present- Councilmen Martin.. Miller,, Nelson, Smith and TeWinkle: Officials Presents City: -Clerk .Swartz.- City_- Attorney. Dungan Treasurer. Ries and City Manager. -Coffey. AUTO_'BIDS City Clerk Swartz opened and read proposals from eight. -,automobile dealers offering_ to sell police co cars to the. City--of.Costa Mesa. The Clerk also read -proposals from fivedealers to lease police oars�to the Pity on a monthly. basis. On motion by__Councilmas Miller, all proposals be referred toy the City_ Manager for study and report to be made at the next.Council meeting&. The :motion.was seconded.by'Councilman Martin and unanimously...carried. RESOLUTION, Resolution No. 36 being.a resolution "ESTABLISHING NO. 36., A .STOP,; INTERSECTION AT THE, CORxER OF MONrE VISTA STOP SIGN:' AND•ELDEN AVENDE" was -presented. It was moved by l MONTE_VISTA & Councilman Miller that Resolution No. 36. be adopted. ELDEN AVENUE. Mr. G. N. Wells spoke`for the, retainin6 _of .the license provision. PERMITS. The application of the.Narath Music Co. for a permit -to. operate •a. Juke Box at Dicks Market, Newport Boulevard, was presented. Councilman Smith moved that the permit be .granted. The motion was ` seconded,--by,,Councilman Miller and unanimously carried. The application of W. -A. Hennings -for permits to operatea Juke Box at the following locations: I,_. Pops Place,. 2230 Newport Boulevard .. .2. Art's-Cafo ,-2270 Newport Boulevard was presented. 'Councilman Miller moved that the permits be granted. The motion was seoonAed by Council Smith and. unanimously__crried. :The.application of.THE.PROTECTOR-for an exempt permit was presented. Out recommendation of Chief of Police McKenzie, Councilman Nelson moved that the permit be denied. The motion was aeconded by -Councilman Martin and -unanimously carried. The application of the Beach Amusement Co., for approval of Harold's Cocktail Bare -1670 Newport Blvd., as an approved- location for an amusement machine was presented. On motion of Councilmen Miller seconded by Councilman Smith and unanimously carried,_ the 'application was referred to the Chief of Police for investigation. 52 A letter from -the City of Santa Ana inviting -the Councils -City Officials and Planning__Cormmittee to attend a-meating.-of the Regional Planning --Congress on December 10th, 1953 -,,was read. The motion was seconded by Councilman Martin end unanimously carried. V•1395 It -.was -moved -:by Councilman Smith that the request of Geo.: M. Holsta'iri & Sons of E. 17th Street, for a sideyard variance be granted as recommended by_the City-Planning__Committee.' The motion was seconded by Councilman Nelson and unanimously carried. Upon --,motion of•Councilman Martin, seconded by Council. man Nelson and unanimously carriedg that no objection be made to the Orange- County- Planning. Commission proposed Tract Map_ 1880. PROTEST, Mrs Elotz; representing..Yan's Bowling -_Alley, protested the action of the''Council in removing -amusement machines from'the-establiebment. It was moved by Councilman -Smith that.the Chief of Police conduct an investigation` and report to the Council at the neat meeting-. _The motion was seconded by Councilman Miller and unanimously carried. Councilman Nelson that the City, of RENTAL Costa Mesa rent one Plymouth under the terms set .forth -in -the -offer of Robert Boney. The motion was seconded-,:by.Councilman Martin and carried by the -following-vote.. !AYESSv: -Councilmen Martin, Miller, Nelson, Smith and TeWinkle. NOES:: - None. NOES: Councilman Martin. 54 PERMITS It was moved by Councilman Smith that the request for the removal of amusement machines from Van's Bowling Alley which was made by the Council at its meeting of November,16th, 1953..be withdrawn.
