MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL
CITY OF COSTA MESA
DECEMBER 28th, 1953•
ROLL CALL, The Council of the City of Costas Mesa met at a
regular adjourned ;meeting at the justice Court
Building 18th Street, Costa Mesa, California,
-West
December 28th. -1953 at:7:30 P. M..
Present: Councilmen Miller, Smith and Mayor TeWinkle
Absent: 'Councilmen Nelson and Martin.
Officials
Present: City.Clerk Swartz and City Manager Coffey.
PERMITS'' The application of the Hand Outdoor Advertising Co.
for a business license and the approval of the
locations of existing -billboards was presented. It
was moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman
CIO
Miller and unanimously carried, that the permit be

granted -and the locations approved.
The application of Scotto Inc.. to move a building to
2648 Newport•Boulevard was presented. This applica-
tion havingbeen approved by the Planning Committee
and having.cc®plied with the City Ordinance relating
to House Moving,,.it was moved by Councilman Smith,
seconded by Councilman Miller and unanimously --carried
that"the permit be granted,
VARIANCES- The -application of Ri W. Wright for a front and rear
V -1416 yard variance to permit the erection of a four unit
retail store building, the construction of which to
take place over a five year period was presented.
It was moved by Councilman Smith that the permit be
granted subject to the conditions recommended by the
Orange County PlanningCommission and the City_ Plan-
ning -Committee and with the added condition that the
construction of Unit B, as shown on the map_:presented
with -the applieation,'will not be started until after
Iuly 1, 19%. The motion was seconded by Councilman
-Miller and naanimously carried.
V -1431 The request of Mr._ Jack Kennedy for a variance to
permit the erection of:a sign at the corner of
East 17th Street and Tustin Avenue Was granted as
recommended'_by the Orange -County Planning -Commission
and the City,:_Planning- _ Commit tee upon the motion of
CouncilmantMiller, seconded by -Councilman Smith which
was unanimously -:carried.
V-1422 It was moved by -Councilman Miller, seconded by
Councilman Smith and unanimously carried that the
variance request of the General Petroleum Corp.for
the erection of a sign at the corner of East 17th Sto,
and Tustin Avenue be granted as recommended by -the
Orange -'County Planning_Commission and City.Planning
Committee.
ADIOURNMENT There being -no further business it was moved by
Mayor.TeWinkle,. seconded by Councilman Smith"that
the meeting.be adjourned.
