Resolution No. 424 Thereupon Resolution No. 424, being A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL;
OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA URGING THE CONSIDERATION OF A PORTION OF
PROPERTY OWNED BY THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA A'S A SITE FOR AN INSTITUTION
--OF HIGHER LEARNING, was presented. On motion by Councilman J. Smith,
seconded by Councilman Pinkley, Resolution No. 424 was adopted by the
following roll call vote:
-AYES: Councilmen J. 'Smith, B.'Smith, Pinkley, Meyers
NOES: Councilmen - None
ABSENT Councilman Nelson
Adjournment.' Upon.motion by Councilman Pinkley, seconded by Councilman J.Smith,
and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 p.m.

The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, California, met in
regular adjourned session at 8:00 p.m., November 19, 1957 at the
City Hall, 695 W. 19th 'St., Costa Mesa, The meeting was called
to order by the Mayor Pro -Tem, B.Smi.th, followed by the Pledge of
Allegiance.
Roll Call.
Councilmen Present: J. 'Smith, B.'Smith, Pinkley, Meyers
Councilmen Absent: Nelson
Officials Present: Assistant City Manager, Chief Deputy City Clerk
City Engineer, City Attorney

Discussion was held on the need for facilities for advanced education,

A decision was reached that the establishing of an institution of
higher learning be urged. Mr. E. Stanley, W. L6e, Ted Bennett, Dr. -
Basil Peterson, Braden Finch, Paul Nissen, Art Adair, Jesse Luke and
Selim Franklin spoke from the floor, urging that if the Fairview Hospital
was only using a portion of the land available and the remainder was
surplus that an institution be placed on that location if the State
so desired.
