ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
CITY OF COSTA MESA
March 12, 1974
The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, California,
met in.an adjourned regular session at 7:30 p.m., March
12, 1974, in the Council Chambers, at the City Hall, 77
.Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, said meeting having been duly
and regularly. ordered adjourned from the regular meeting
of March 4, 1974, and a copy of the Notice of Adjourn-
ment having been posted as required by law.
The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, followed
by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, and Invocation
by Councilman Wilson.

Councilmen Present: Hammett, Jordan, Pinkley, Wilson,

Councilmen. Absent: None

The City.Clerk presented the Certificate of Canvass of

Votes Cast
The whole number of votes cast in said City (except
absent voter ballots)•was'10,786. The whole number of

Jack Hammett, having received 3,587 votes, was elected
Mayor Hammett commended Vice Mayor Jordan for his many

On motion by Vice Mayor Jordan, seconded by Councilman

of Election
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, RECITING
THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN SAID
CITY OF COSTA MESA ON THE FIFTH DAY OF MARCH, 1974,
DECLARING THE RESULT THEREOF AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS
ARE PROVIDED BY LAW, was adopted by the following roll
call vote:
AYES.: Councilmen: Hammett, Jordan, Pinkley,.
Wilson, Raciti
NOES: -Councilmen: None
ABSENT: Councilmen: None

Mayor Hammett commended Vice Mayor Jordan for his many

Jordan as a Councilman and friend.
Vice Mayor.,Jordan expressed appreciation for the
opportunity to serve the citizens of Costa Mesa
and commended the members of the City staff and
Council for their fine' achievements.
Oaths of Office The Clerk administered•the.0aths of Office to
Administered Councilman Jack Hammett and Councilwoman Norma
Hertzog, and presented certificates of election
to the two. .newly-elected'Council Members.
Adjournment -to On motion by Councilman Pinkley, seconded by
Executive Councilman Raciti, and carried, the Council
Session adjourned to an Executive Session at 8:00 p.m.,
and the meeting reconvened at 8:15 p.m.
Robert M. Wilson The City Clerk, acting as Chairman for the meeting,
Elected Mayor .-called-for nominations.for the office of Mayor. On
for One Year .motion by -Councilman Hammett, seconded by Council-
woman Hertzog, and carried unanimously, Robert M.
Wilson was elected Mayor, to serve until midnight,
March ll, 1975.
Alvin L.. Pinkley' On motion by Councilman Hammett, seconded by
Elected Mayor Councilman Raciti, and carried unanimously,.Council-
for One Year man Pinkley was elected Mayor, to begin his term at
12:01 a:.m.., March 12, 1975, to serve to the first
Tuesday after the next General Municipal Election;
and according.to.Government Code Section 36801, the
Mayor must again stand for appointment or election
by his fellow Council Members.
Jack Hammett On motion by Mayor Wilson, seconded by Councilman
Elected Raciti, and carried unanimously, Jack Hammett was
Vice Mayor elected to serve as Vice Mayor, with his term to
expire..the first Tuesday after the next General
Municipal.'Election in 1976, when again, according
to the aforementioned Section, a Mayor Pro Tem
must stand for election or be appointed by his
fellow Council Members.
Adjournment The Mayor declared the meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
