HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/14/1976 - Adjourned City Council Meeting410 ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF COSTA MESA September 14, 1976 The City Council of the City- of -.Costa Mesa met in adjourned regular ses's'ion -on September" 14, 1976, at -7:30 a.m., at the Captain's Table, --Orange Coast College, 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa, California, said meeting having been duly and regularly ordered adjourned from theregular meeting of September 7, 1976, and a copy of;,the Notice of Adjournment having been posted as requited Lby law. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor. Roll Call Council Members Present: Raciti, Hammett, Hertzog, McFarland, Smallwood Council Members Absent: None Officials Present: City Manager, City Attorney, Redevelopment Agency Attorney, Executive Director of the Redevelopment Agency, Assistant Secretary of the Redevelopment Agency McNally Site Staff presented for discussion various options for possible future development of the McNally School site. Prior to the development of this site, some of the problems to be resolved are: (1) Downtown Circulation problems, which would include access to Harbor Boulevard; (2) Future freeway development; (3) What to do with existing church; (4) To what extent could existing buildings be retained; and (5) Whether it should be developed as commercial or a combination of commercial and residential. It was asked if the City and Redevelopment Agency should become involved with the school district in helping to market the property, or should the City consider purchasing the property. It has_been estimated that the McNally School site would sell at about $3.50 per square foot. Vice Mayor Hammett discussed the importance of getting commitments on the freeway from CALTRANS prior to finalizing plans in.this area. He said we might possibly get the State to commit themselves to complet- -ing the freeway from Bay Street through the Redevelop- ment Area. He suggested that City representatives go to Sacramento with a specific design to try and get a firm commitment from them on a particular area. It was mentioned that Wilsey and Ham based their proposal on the completion of the freeway. The Council and Redevelopment Agency members discussed the future of the eight -acre site at the southwest corner of 19th Street and Harbor Boulevard, and the "Albertson Market" site. Summary It was the consensus of those present that: (1) The City and Redevelopment Agency concentrate on the development of Park Avenue,.Center Street, Harbor Boulevard, and 19th Street; and (2) Give assistance, where possible, with the development of the McNally School site. Should an additional joint meeting be necessary, the City Manager and Redevelopment Agency Executive Director will call the meeting.
