McNally Site Staff presented for discussion various options for
possible future development of the McNally School
site. Prior to the development of this site, some
of the problems to be resolved are: (1) Downtown
Circulation problems, which would include access to
Harbor Boulevard; (2) Future freeway development;
(3) What to do with existing church; (4) To what
extent could existing buildings be retained; and
(5) Whether it should be developed as commercial or
a combination of commercial and residential. It was
asked if the City and Redevelopment Agency should
become involved with the school district in helping
to market the property, or should the City consider
purchasing the property. It has_been estimated that
the McNally School site would sell at about $3.50
per square foot.
Vice Mayor Hammett discussed the importance of getting
commitments on the freeway from CALTRANS prior to
finalizing plans in.this area. He said we might
possibly get the State to commit themselves to complet-
-ing the freeway from Bay Street through the Redevelop-
ment Area. He suggested that City representatives go
to Sacramento with a specific design to try and get a
firm commitment from them on a particular area. It
was mentioned that Wilsey and Ham based their proposal
on the completion of the freeway.
The Council and Redevelopment Agency members discussed
the future of the eight -acre site at the southwest
corner of 19th Street and Harbor Boulevard, and the
"Albertson Market" site.
Summary It was the consensus of those present that: (1) The
City and Redevelopment Agency concentrate on the
development of Park Avenue,.Center Street, Harbor
Boulevard, and 19th Street; and (2) Give assistance,
where possible, with the development of the McNally
School site. Should an additional joint meeting be
necessary, the City Manager and Redevelopment Agency
Executive Director will call the meeting.
