ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
CITY OF COSTA MESA
August 23, 1984
The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, California,
met in adjourned regular session on August 23, 1984, at
4:00 p.m., in the first floor Conference Roan of City
Hall, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, said meeting having
been duly and regularly ordered adjourned frau the
regular meeting of August 20, 1984; and a copy of the
Notice of Adjournment having been posted as required by
law. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor.
Council Members Present: Hall, Johnson, Hertzog,
Schafer
Council Members Absent: McFarland
Officials Present:. City Manager; Personnel
Analyst; Deputy City Clerk
MOU with Costa The City Manager presented the Memorandum of Understand -
Mesa Police ing (MOU) with the Costa Mesa Police Association. The
Association document calls for the following salary increases,
effective September 2, 1984:
Police Officer and Senior Police Officer - 6.25
percent;
Police Sergeant - 7.5 percent; and
Police Lieutenant - 8.75 percent.
The above-mentioned classifications shall receive a
five percent increase, effective July 7, 1985.
The City Manager also summarized those portions of the
MOU relating to medical, dental, Long Term Disability,
retirement, and personnel rule revisions.
MOTION A motion was made by Councilwanan Schafer, seconded by
MOU with Costa Mesa Vice Mayor Johnson, and carried 4-0, to receive and file
Police Association the Memorandum of Understanding with the Costa Mesa
Received and Filed Police Association.
Salary Resolution The City Manager presented a resolution which contains
salary increases for police officers as detailed in the
Memorandum of Understanding. He read Section 3 of the
resolution which refers to the Retirement Plan for all
safety employees, both police and fire:
"Section 3. For purposes of determining monthly
earnings only, as defined in Section 1.10 of the
Retirement Plan for Safety Employees of the City
of Costa Mesa, the monthly rate of canpensation
shall be increased by 9 percent (90) for all safety
employees terminating employment by retiring on or
after July 1, 1984."
MOTION On motion by Councilwanan Hertzog, seconded by Council -
Resolution 84-110 wanan Schafer, Resolution 84-110, being A RESOLUTION OF
Adopted THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA,
ESTABLISHING THE BASIC PAY SCHEDULE, ESTABLISHING THE
RATES OF PAY FOR CLASSIFICATIONS AND EMPLOYEES PLACID
UNDER THE BASIC PAY SCHEDULE, was adopted by the follow-
ing roll call vote:
AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Hall, Johnson, Hertzog,
Schafer
NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS: McFarland
MOTION On motion by Councilwoman Hertzog, seconded by Council -
Authorized wonan Schafer, and carried 4-0, the City Manager was
Implementation authorized to implement the terms of the Memorandum of
of MOU Understanding.
ADJOURNMENT The Mayor"declared the meeti jo ned at :10 p.m.
