HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/06/1989 - Adjourned City Council Meeting91 ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF COSTA MESA OCTOBER 6, 1989 The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, California, met in adjourned regular session October 6, 1989, at 8:15 a.m., at the Country Side Inn, 325 Bristol Street, Costa Mesa. The meeting was duly and regularly ordered adjourned from the regular meeting of October 2, 1989, and copies of the Notice of Adjournment were posted as required by law. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor. ROLL CALL COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT:; Mayor Peter Buffa Vice -Mayor Mary Hornbuckle Council Member Ory Amburgey Council Member Sandra Genis Council Member Ed Glasgow COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT: None OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Manager Allan Roeder Personnel Services Director Steven Hayman Compensation and Classifica- tion Manager Howard Perkins ADJOURNMENT TO After roll call was taken, Mayor Buffa adjourned the CLOSED SESSION meeting to a closed session, and the City Manager and Personnel Services Director summarized the interview process for Council. The following individuals were Candidates for interviewed by Council for position of City Attorney: Position of City Attorney Carter Stroud Eleanor Frey Thomas Kathe John Shaw Robert Sangster MEETING 'The Mayor reconvened the meeting at 11:25 a.m., and the RECONVENED Council had lunch with staff and the candidates. ADJOURNMENT TO At 12:50 p.m., the Mayor adjourned the meeting to a CLOSED SESSION closed session at which time the Council, as a group, reinterviewed each candidate. Upon conclusion of the interviews, Council discussed the merits of each appli- MOTION cant. After discussion, a motion was made, seconded, Thomas Kathe and carried 5-0, to offer the position of City Attorney Offered Position to Thomas Kathe subject to a background search by the of City Attorney Personnel Department; and the City Manager was directed to negotiate the terms of employment with a benefit package equal to that offered to other City management personnel, and a salary up to that equal to the compen- sation paid to the former City Attorney. MOTION A motion was made and seconded, to approve an employment Contract contract not to exceed one year for the position of City Authorized Attorney should it be necessary as part of the employ- ment negotiations.
