HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/28/1991 - City Council Special MeetingSPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF COSTA MESA AND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS NEWPORT -MESA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT OCTOBER 28, 1991 The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, California, met in special session October 28, 1991, at 4:00 p.m., at the Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Avenue, Costa Mesa, and notice of the special hearing was given as required by law. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor. ROLL CALL Council Members Present: Mayor Mary Hornbuckle Vice Mayor Sandra Genis Council Member Peter Buffa Council Member Jay Humphrey Council Member Joe Erickson Council Members Absent: None Officials Present: Board Members Present: City Manager Allan Roeder Deputy City Manager/Develop- ment Services Donald Lamm Deputy City Attorney Sally May Principal Planner R. Michael Robinson Deputy City Clerk Ruth Delaney President Sherry Loofbourrow Vice-President/Clerk Forrest Werner Secretary John Nicoll Board Member Kenneth Wayman Board Member Tom Williams Board Member Judith Franco Board Member Jim de Boom Board Member Roderick MacMillian The following topics were discussed: City Presentation on the General Plan District Report on School Reopenings, Closings, et al. Joint Use of Facilities for Youth Sports Posting for "Drug -Free" Zones Around Schools Graffiti Abatement on School Grounds Mike Dunn, representing the Costa Mesa Youth Athletic Committee, spoke regarding the need for improved sports fields in Costa Mesa. Janice Davidson addressed the following: (1) the dis- position of Rea School, and Secretary Nicoll responded that the School Board had asked the City to vacate the premises in 2 to 3 years; and (2) the Costa Mesa Boys Club. Alice Leggett spoke regarding organized youth activities after school.
