HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/09/2002 - City Council Special Meeting�I ROLL CALL ORAL COMMUNICATIONS SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF COSTA MESA September 9, 2002 The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, California, met in special session on September 9, 2002, at 8:00 p.m., immediately following the regularly scheduled 6:30 p.m. Redevelopment Agency Meeting, in Conference Room 1-A of City Hall, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. Notice of the special meeting was given as required by law. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Dixon. Council Members Present: Council Members Absent: Officials Present: Mayor Linda Dixon Mayor Pro Tem Gary Monahan Council -Member Libby Cowan Council Member Karen Robinson -_Council Member Chris Steel None City Manager Allan Roeder City Attorney Jerry Scheer Administrative Services Director Steve Hayman Deputy City Clerk Julie Folcik There were no members of the public who wished to speak under Oral Communications. Pursuant to Government Code Section 54957, a closed session of the Costa Mesa City Council to -conduct performance evaluations of the City Manager and City Attorney was held. MOTION On a motion made by Council Member Monahan, seconded by Council Member Robinson, and carried 5-0, the following actions were adopted: The City Attorney immediately placed on paid administrative leave pending a further and more detailed review of the foregoing performance and conduct; and 2. The Assistant City Attorney placed on paid administrative leave pending a further and more detailed review; and 3. The Administrative Services Department given complete oversight of the City Attorney's Office until further notice by the City Council; and 4. A committee of two (2) City Council members be established to conduct the further and more detailed review of the City Attorney's performance and conduct, and return in not more than three (3) weeks a final recommendation to the City Council regarding the City Attorney's continued employment with the City; and 5. A full financial audit immediately be conducted of the City Attorney's office; and 40.1 MP 6. The City of Costa Mesa no longer utilize the services of Murtaugh, Miller, Meyer & Nelson, LLP for any City legal services; and 7. Evaluation of the City Manager be deferred.
