COUNCIL MEMBERS REPORTS, COMMENTS, AND SUGGESTIONS
Mayor Pro Tem Righeimer commented on the cancelled special meeting and
unfunded capital improvement projects, the proposed charter as a financial tool,
the $7.3 million in roadwork improvements to be spent in July, the 10 to 27
percent that might have been saved with the proposed charter by outsourcing
services, and the missed deadline for putting the proposed charter on the June
ballot. (00:16:12)
Council Member Leece commented on the desire of the residents of Costa Mesa
for the City to put its finances in order; expressed concern about the vitriol and
anger toward public employees; commented on the previous employee
agreements that were made to retain and attract the best and provide a good
level of service to the community, and the need to put aside both sides as the
residents are caught in the middle; and asked for respect for employees and
residents making Costa Mesa a city where we honor and respect each other.
