HomeMy WebLinkAbout65-28 Establishing Employee VacationsORDINANCE NO. -4 -'2 r AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA ESTABLISHING THE PERIOD OF VACATION FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. SECTION 2703 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, ENTITLED T'PERIOD OF VACATION. POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS." IS HEREBY AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS: 'SECTION 2703. PERIOD OF VACATION. FIRE DEPARTMENT. `EMPLOYEES AND MEMBERS OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, EXCLUDING OFFICE EMPLOYEES AND ALL OTHERS NOT DESIGNATED FIREMEN, SHALL BE GRANTED ANNUAL VACATIONS AS PRESCRIBED IN PARAGRAPHS (A), (B), (C), (D), AND (E) OF THIS SECTION. THE CHIEF OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SHALL DESIGNATE THE VACATION PERIOD FOR EACH MEMBER OF HIS DEPARTMENT, AND IN SO DOING HE SHALL GIVE DUE CONSIDERA- TION TO THE DESIRES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE DEPARTMENT, BUT HIS DECISION IN THIS RESPECT SHALL BE FINAL AND CONCLUSIVE. (A) EMPLOYEES OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE EMPLOY OF THE CITY CONTINUOUSLY FOR ONE (1) YEAR BUT LESS THAN THREE (3) YEARS SHALL HAVE AN ANNUAL VACATION OF SEVEN AND ONE- HALF (7-1/2) CONSECUTIVE SHIFTS. (B) EMPLOYEES OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE EMPLOY OF THE CITY CONTINUOUSLY FOR THREE (3) YEARS OR MORE BUT LESS THAN FIVE (5) YEARS SHALL HAVE AN ANNUAL VACATION OF NINE (9) CONSECUTIVE SHIFTS. (C) EMPLOYEES OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE EMPLOY OF THE CITY CONTINUOUSLY FOR FIVE (5) YEARS OR MORE BUT LESS THAN TEN (10) YEARS SHALL HAVE AN ANNUAL VACATION OF ELEVEN AND ONE-HALF (11-1/2) CONSECUTIVE SHIFTS. SECTION 1. (CONTINUED) (D) EMPLOYEES OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE EMPLOY OF THE CITY CONTINUOUSLY FOR TEN (10) YEARS OR MORE BUT LESS THAN FIFTEEN (15) YEARS SHALL HAVE AN ANNUAL VACATION OF THIRTEEN (13) CONSECUTIVE SHIFTS. (E) EMPLOYEES OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE EMPLOY OF THE CITY CONTINUOUSLY FOR FIFTEEN (15) YEARS OR MORE SHALL HAVE AN ANNUAL VACATION OF FIFTEEN AND ONE-HALF (15-1/2) CONSECUTIVE SHIFTS. TT SECTION 2. SECTION 2704 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, ENTITLED "SAME. OTHER EMPLOYEES." IS HEREBY AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS: 'SECTION 2704. SAME. OTHER EMPLOYEES. "ALL OTHER FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY, EXCEPT THOSE SPECIFIED IN SECTION 2703, SHALL BE ENTITLED TO ANNUAL VACATIONS AS PRESCRIBED IN PARAGRAPHS (A), (B), (C), (0), AND (E) OF THIS SECTION, EACH VACATION PERIOD TO BE DESIG- NATED BY THE HEAD OF THE RESPECTIVE DEPARTMENT, SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE CITY MANAGER. (A) ALL EMPLOYEES, AS ABOVE DESCRIBED, WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE EMPLOY OF THE CITY CONTINUOUSLY FOR ONE (1) YEAR BUT LESS THAN THREE (3) YEARS SHALL HAVE AN ANNUAL VACATION OF ELEVEN (11) WORKING DAYS. (B) ALL EMPLOYEES, AS ABOVE DESCRIBED, WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE EMPLOY OF no THE CITY CONTINUOUSLY FOR THREE (3) YEARSABUT LESS THAN FIVE (5) YEARS SHALL HAVE AN ANNUAL VACATION OF FOURTEEN (14) WORKING DAYS. (C) ALL EMPLOYEES, AS ABOVE DESCRIBED, WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE EMPLOY OF THE CITY CONTINUOUSLY FOR FIVE (5) YEARS OR MORE BUT LESS THAN TEN (10) YEARS SHALL HAVE AN ANNUAL VACATION OF SEVENTEEN (17) WORKING DAYS. SECTION 2. (CONTINUED) (D) ALL EMPLOYEES, AS ABOVE DESORIBED, WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE EMPLOY OF THE CITY CONTINUOUSLY FOR TEN 10) YEARS OR MORE BUT LESS THAN FIFTEEN 15) YEARS SHALL HAVE AN ANNUAL VACATION OF TWENTY (20) WORKING DAYS. (E) ALL EMPLOYEES, AS ABOVE DESCRIBED, WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE EMPLOY OF THE CITY CONTINUOUSLY FOR FIFTEEN (15) YEARS OR MORE SHALL HAVE AN ANNUAL VACATION OF TWENTY-THREE (23) WORKING DAYS. 1' SECTION 3. THIS ORDINANCE SHALL TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE THIRTY (30) DAYS FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, AND PRIOR TO THE EXPIRATION OF FIFTEEN (15) DAYS FROM THE PASSAGE THEREOF SHALL BE PUBLISHED ONCE IN THE ORANGE COAST DAILY PILOT, A NEWSPAPER OF GENERAL CIRCULATION, PRINTED AND PUBLISHED IN THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, TOGETHER WITH THE NAMES AND VOTES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VOTING FOR AND AGAINST THE SAME.
