Engineering 8 Environmental Services Memo To: Joe Sanfilippo Ecom: Judy Rosner CC: Ken Pruett Darr: September 29. 1997 Re: Final Clearance Building 07 This memo is to confirm that final clearance air samples for the asbestos abatement in Building 07 were collected on August 28. 1997. Air samples were analyzed in general accordance with the National Institute fire Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Method 7400. This method describes air sampling parameters and a protocol for analyzing air samples via Phase Contract Microscopy (PCM). The NIOSH Method 7400 describes a procedure which provides results that indicate approximate concentrations of any type of airborne particulate matter which meet specified aspect ratio and size criteria. Particulate matter which meets the specified criteria are classified as fibers. The method does not count all fibers in all size ranges nor does it differentiate asbestos fibers from other types of fibers. PCM analysis of air samples was performed at Tri- H's field laboratory located at the site. Air samples obtained to determine if the abatement work areas met final air clearance criteria were collected and analyzed in general accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency's(EPA) Recommended clearance criterion of 0.01 floc. Based on the laboratory results and our visual observations.this building is able to be occupied without respiratory protection.
