ORDINANCE NO. 7-2-/
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COSTA MESA, AMENDING CHAPTER II, ARTICLE
5.5, CRIME PREVENTION COMMITTEE, RELATING TO
THE MEMBERSHIP THEREON.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa
finds and declares that difficulty has been encountered in ob-
taining applicants among high school students, and college students
for membership on the Crime Prevention Committee for the City of
Costa Mesa. The City Council further finds and declares that a
revision of the membership requirements on the Crime Prevention
Committee is necessary in order to insure adequate and full
membership, and in order to insure that said committee may function
in accordance with its original purposes.
Accordingly, Chapter II, Article 5.5 of the Costa Mesa
Municipal Code is amended to read as follows:
SECTION 2. Section 2500.2 shall be amended to read
as follows:
Section 2500.2 Regular Members
"The committee shall consist of not less than nine (9)
members and shall be appointed by the Mayor subject to the appro
by a majority vote of the City Council. Six (6) of said members
shall be chosen, one from the six (6) areas of the City, which
were established for the membership on the now deactivated Costa
Mesa Beautification Committee. The remaining three (3) members
shall be picked from the City at large. Members shall serve
without compensation, and all regular members shall be entitled
to vote."
Section 2500.5 shall be amended to read as follows:
Section 2500.5 Requirements
"All regular members shall be qualified electors of

I City of Costa Mesa. Any committeemen who no longer qualify as
2 an elector of the City of Costa Mesa, or moves his or her residence
3 from within the geographical limits of the City of Costa Mesa
4 shall forthwith be deemed no longer a member of the committee,
5 and the position thus vacated shall be filled in accordance with
6 Section 2500.2".
7 SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in
8 full force and effect thirty (30) days from and after its passage,
9 and before the expiration of fifteen (15) days after its passage,
10 shall be published once in the Orange Coast Daily Pilot, a news -
11 paper of general circulation printed and published in the City of
12 Costa Mesa, together with the names of the members of the City
13 Council voting for and against the same.
14 PASSED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of June 1972.
