RECOMMENDATION:
Continue this item to City Council's meeting on March 16, 2010. The applicant is unable
to attend the March 2nd meeting and requested a two-week continuance of his request.
BACKGROUND:
On February 16, 2010, City Council considered a request to waive Planning Application
fee in the amount of $1,550.00 for processing a Conditional Use Permit (CUP). The
application is related to conversion of "Coast Motel" located at 2278 Newport Blvd into
Single Room Occupancy (SRO) or Family Room Occupancy (FRO) units.
The City Council had questions from the applicant related to the current operation of the
motel and the intended improvements with the conversion of the property into
apartments. However, the applicant was not present at the meeting and the item was
continued the March 2nd meeting of the City Council.
Pursuant to City Council policy, if the fee waiver is approved; the proposed project needs
to be considered by the Planning Commission in a study session before a conditional use
permit is processed.
