PRESENTATION BY: PETER NAGHAVI, DIRECTOR, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICES FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: ERNESTO MUNOZ, CITY ENGINEER, (714) 754-5335 RECOMMENDATION: 1: Accept the work performed by America West Landscape, Inc., and authorize the City Clerk to <file the Notice of Completion. 2. :Release the Labor and Material Bond seven (7) ,months after the filing date; release the Faithful Performance Bond one (1) year after the filing date; and release the retention monies 35 days :after the Notice of Completion filing date. BACKGROUND: On April 1, 2010, a construction contract in the amount of $82,899.99 was awarded to America West Landscape, Inc., 15086 La Palma Drive, Chino, California, 91710. The scope of work for this project included the removal of the existing driveways and paved parking lot; construction of a full -height curb and gutter; installation of a new irrigation service and meter; installation of a below -ground irrigation system; grading and contouring of the site to the master - planned grades; cultivation of soil; and the planting of forty-five 24" box trees within the project limits. Before Improvements . Improvements Completed ANALYSIS: The work required by the contract documents was completed on August 19, 2010, to the satisfaction of the City Engineer. The final contract cost amounted to $80,803.95. A report of the final costs is shown herein as Attachment "1." A summary of the costs is as follows: Original Contract Cost: $82,899.99 Change Order No. 1: ($ 2,096.04) Final -Contract -Cost: $80;803...95- A deductive change order in the amount of $2,096.04 was issued to reflect the quantity adjustments for the project. The final contract price reflects a two and a half percent (2.5%) decrease to the original contract as a result of the aforementioned Change Order No. 1. ALTERNATIVES CONSIDERED: There were no alternatives considered for this item. FISCAL REVIEW: This project was funded with revenue allocated from the Park Development Fund., LEGAL REVIEW: There is no legal review required on this item. CONCLUSION: The landscape and irrigation improvements at Brentwood Park have been completed. It is recommended that the City Council authorize staff to file the Notice of Completion; release the remaining retention monies 35 days after the Notice of Completion filing date; and release the bonds accordingly.
