RECOMMENDATION:
To adopt Ordinance No. 11-12 to be read by title only and waive further reading of the
proposed Ordinance (Attachment 1) amending Chapter V of Title 8 and Section 12-20 of
Title 12 of the Costa Mesa Municipal Code relating to smoking in city parks, sports fields
and community gardens.
BACKGROUND:
Ordinance No. 11-12 was given first reading at the November 1, 2011 City Council
meeting. Public comment was received.

City Council directed the Ordinance be revised as follows:
1. Correct the name of the "Farm Sports Complex" to the "Jack Hammett Sports
Complex" in Section 132(a).
2. Remove the reference to prohibiting the use of tobacco products such as
chewing tobacco in Section 8-131; Section 8-132(e); Section 8-134; and Section
12-20(a).
