Make appointments and reappointments to fill vacancies on the following committees and board: • Cultural Arts Committee 4 regular member vacancies (2 two-year terms and 2 one-year terms) and 2 alternate member vacancies (1 two-year term and 1 one-year term); and • Historical Preservation Committee 6 regular member vacancies (5 two-year terms and 1 one-year term) and 2 alternates (2 two-year terms); and • Housing and Public Service Grant Committee 3 regular member vacancies — this reduces the committee membership to 9 regular members (3 two-year terms); and • Costa Mesa Senior Corporation Board of Directors 2 representative vacancies (2 one-year terms). BACKGROUND: Council Policy 000-2 (Attachment 3) pertaining to Council appointed committees, notes that the expiration of all committee terms shall be held annually in April. Also, Council appointed committees would be reduced to nine regular members and two alternates through attrition. Currently, there are vacancies on the above referenced committees and board due either to term expirations or resignations. New members have been solicited through press releases and news releases on the City website. For this spring recruitment period, there are a total of 19 vacancies, consisting of regular and alternate positions and 22 applications were received. 1 For the Costa Mesa Senior Corporation Board of Directors, the City can appoint up to two director positions. Appointees will serve a one-year term until April 2015. ANALYSIS: At the close of the recruitment period, staff received 23 applications by the deadline and three late applications. Attachment 1 is a list of the committees and board, including applicants who have requested appointments or reappointments to each, as well as the number of vacancies. Attachment 2 consists of the supporting documents including rosters for existing committees and applications for committees or board. Attachment 3 is Council Policy 000- 2, which provides additional information on the recruitment and appointment process. ALTERNATIVES CONSIDERED: None. FISCAL REVIEW: No fiscal review is required for this item. LEGAL REVIEW: No legal review is required for this item. CONCLUSION: The City Council is scheduled to make appointments to the respective committees, in accordance with Council Policy 000-2, and appoint up to two representatives to the Costa Mesa Senior Corporation Board of Directors.
