A RESJLUTI•)N OF TIE CITY CJUNCIL )F THE CITY JF COSTA
DMA, APRIL 20th, 1954.
On motian of Councilman Martin, duly seconded and carr-
ied, the following Resolution was ad)pted:
WhilhEAS, by resolution ad,pted on March 1, 1954, this
Council fixed, called and gave notice of the hoidi-:ig of a reg-
ular h.unicipal Election to be held in this City on Tuesday, the
13th day of April, 1954, for the electi,n of certain officers
of said City as required by the provisions of the laws of the
S'..ate of California relati-ig to cities of the sixth class and
for the submission to the qualified electors of said City of a
certain question, proposition or measure relating to compensat-
ion to City Councilmen;
WHEREAS, the following persons were nominated as cand-
idates for the City Council to be filled by said election:
Bruce W. Martin
Walter A. A:iller i
Claire I,,. Nelson J
Bertren I. Smith
Charles TeWinkle
Paul R. Dunlap
Alvin L. ?inkley
William L. Wie„and
WHEREAS, notice of said election and of the list of
nominees were each duly given for the time and in the manner re-
quired by law;
WHEREAS, said election was duly held on the 13th day of
April, 1954, in the time, form and manner as required by law,
the votes cast, received and canvassed, and the returns thereof
made to t:,is Council in the time, form and manner required by
law;
Wh3REAS, April 20th, 1954, was the date prescribed by
law for the canvassing of the returns of said election, and
this Council having t! -is date canvassed said returns and counted
and canvassed the absentee ballots;
WHEREAS, the return from each of the several election
precincts at said election and the results of the count and can-
vass of the absentee ballots were as shown in the following

NOW, TH REFJRS, Lri IT ReSJLV::D AND JRDERED that upon the
canvassing of said returns and the counting and canvassing of
the absentee ballots, this Council finds and declares as follows:
1. That a total of 1690 votes were cast at said elect-
ion on the proposition of whether each member of the City Council
shall receive the sum of Fifty (450.00) Dollars per month as
compensation for nis time and services as such councilman, of
which number 1102 were for paymet of said compensation and 588
were against payment of such compensation.
2. That a total of 8792 votes were cast at said elect-
ion for the offices of City Councilmen for the City of Costa Mesa.
The names of the persons voted for said offices of City Council-
men and the total number of votes cast for each person are as
follows:

hereby finds and declares that Charles :i. TeiVinkle and Claire
h^. Nelson are the persons receiving the highest number of votes
cast for the offices of City Councilmen, and they are hereby de-
clared to be the two persons receiving the highest number of
votes for such councilman.

finds and declares that a maority of the votes cast on the
question of whether each member of the Citv Council shall re-
ceive the sum of Fifty (00.00) Dollars per month as compensat-
ion for his time and services as said councilman were in favor
of the payment of said com>ensation, and it is hereby declared
that the members of tike Cit} Council shall receive the sum of
Fifty W50.00) Dollars per month as compensation.
