HomeMy WebLinkAbout70-16 - Calling and Giving Notice of General Municipal Electionk4— RESOLUTION NO. 70-16 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON TUESDAY, THE 14TH DAY OF APRIL, 1970, FOR THE ELECTION OF CERTAIN OFFICERS OF SAID CITY AS REQUIRED BY THE PROVISIONS OF THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA RELATING TO GENERAL LAW CITIES. WHEREAS, under the provisions of the laws relating to General Law Cities in the State of California, a regular general municipal election shall be held on the 14th day of April, 1970, for the election of two members of the City Council of said City for the full term of four years. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That pursuant to the requirements of the laws of the State of California relating to General Law Cities within said State, there shall be, and there is hereby called and ordered, held in the City of Costa Mesa, County of Orange, State of California, on Tuesday, the 14th day of April, 1970, a regular general municipal election of the qualified electors of said City for the purpose of electing two members of the City Council of said City for the full term of four years; SECTION 2. That the ballots to be used at said election shall be, both as to form and matter contained therein, such as may be required by law to be used thereat. SECTION 3. That the City Clerk of said City is hereby authorized, instructed and directed to procure and furnish any and all official ballots, notices, printed matter and all supplies, equipment and parapher- nalia that may be necessary in order to properly and lawfully conduct said election. SECTION 4. That for the purpose of holding said regular general municipal election, there shall be and are hereby established forty-nine (49) voting precincts consisting of the regular election precincts in the City of Costa Mesa established for the holding of State and County elections, as said regular election precincts exist on the date of adoption of this resolution. That the polling places for the respective precincts shall be the places hereinafter designated; and that the persons hereinafter named, being competent and qualified electors and residents of said City and of their respective voting precincts, are hereby appointed officers of election fnr their respective voting precincts and they shall "'i hold said election and make return thereof in the manner provided by law. That the compensation ofthe parsons hereinbefore named as election officers is hereby fixed at the sum of $21.00 (Twenty-one Dollars) for each Inspector and $18.00 (Eighteen Dollars) for each Judge and Clerk for said election. The rental for each of such polling places, where a charge is made, shall be the sum of $15.00 (Fifteen Dollars) for said election. SECTION 6. That the polls for said election shall be open at seven o'clock A. M. of the day of said election, and shall remain open continuously from said time until seven o'clock P. M. of the same day when said polls shall be closed, except as provided in Section 14436 of the Elections Code of the State of California. SECTION 7. That in all particulars not recited in this Resolution, said election shall be held and conducted as provided by law for holding municipal elections in said City. SECTION 8. That notice of the time and place of holding said election is hereby given and the City Clerk is hereby authorized, instructed and directed to give such further or additional notice of said election in time, form and manner as required by law. SECTION 9. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution; shall enter the same in the book of original Resolutions of said City; And shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the records of the proceedings of the City Council of said City, in the minutes of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted. SECTION 10. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 2nd day of February, 1970.
